Specialist User Support Technician

The Specialist User Support team provides support to Schools and Departments across the University both at desk side and also by a remote assistance tool. Some members of the SUS Team will be located in schools or departments outside of the IT Directorate.

Staff will be required to install and configure new computers, printers, tablets and other mobile devices and are responsible for understanding customer needs which may range from being straightforward to more complicated and complex solutions. Other duties will include trouble shooting software, hardware, audio visual equipment and basic network problems.

The work is varied and interesting and an excellent opportunity for those with the relevant experience to work constructively with University staff on their use of IT.

This post will suit a self-motivated individual who is capable of working both individually and flexibly as one of a team within a challenging and changing environment.

You will have:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, and a helpful diplomatic manner.
  • The ability to prioritise work and to work with minimum supervision.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft operating systems (Windows 7) and Microsoft Office, web and email.
  • Experience of trouble shooting IT/AV hardware, software and peripheral problems.
  • Experience of installing software and peripheral equipment.
  • Good understanding of basic networking, IP, DHCP configurations.
  • Some knowledge of Macs and basic Linux experience would be an advantage.
