Software Engineer/Senior Software Engineer – Digital Creativity Labs
University of York - Computer Science
|Salary:||£38,183 to £55,998|
|Contract Type:||Contract / Temporary|
|Placed on:||24th November 2016|
|Closes:||16th January 2017|
Digital Creativity Labs (DC Labs) is seeking an experienced software engineer and programmer, ideally with experience of working in games or media industries, to lead the development of products and prototypes emerging from the research of our expanding creative and interdisciplinary team. DC Labs is a major (£18 million) investment by three UK research councils, four universities, and over 80 collaborative stakeholder organisations to create a world centre of excellence for impact-driven research in digital creativity, focusing on digital games, interactive media and the rich space where they converge. The main Labs site is at the University of York, with “spoke” sites at the Cass Business School, Goldsmiths (University of London) and Falmouth University. DC Labs builds upon other projects led by the University of York including the £12 million EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Games and Game Intelligence (www.iggi.org.uk).
You will play a leading role within DC Labs to deliver high quality software based on world-leading research to partner organisations, predominantly working in the games and media sectors. You will work across a number of innovative and exciting projects and with a wide range of researchers from many disciplines (both technical and non-technical). You will bring significant experience of software development within a commercial, ideally games/ app/ media development background. Experience of software development, architectures, and setting up and managing software development projects are essential, as is the ability to do hands-on programming yourself. You will be passionate about new developments in technology and excited by the opportunity to be developing new technology for these sectors. You must be a team player, able to manage the demands of internal stakeholders and be able to work with external partners, understand their technical needs and translate this into requirements. Funding is available to recruit a further software engineer to provide support in delivering these objectives.
The role is advertised at two levels, with the higher level providing scope for more leadership and strategic influence in the running of DC Labs and expecting more interaction and relationship management of our many industry partners. Please apply to the role which best suits your experience and capabilities.
DC Labs are all about Digital Creativity and above all you are a positive, creative and inspiring person that will ensure that DC Labs is a pleasant place to work, and realises the vision of becoming a world centre of excellence for impact-driven research.
