Project Assistant - Gandhara Connections Project

University of Oxford - Faculty of Classics, Ioannou Centre for Classical and Byzantine Studies

The Classical Art Research Centre (CARC) is seeking to appoint a talented researcher with a positive, can-do attitude, to serve as part-time Project Assistant for its 3-year project, 'Gandhara Connections' (supported by the Bagri Foundation and the Neil Kreitman Foundation). The project's aim is to pool and disseminate the latest knowledge and thinking about Gandharan art and its connections with the Graeco-Roman world, and to create web resources for the study of Gandharan art. Working closely with CARC's Director, Administrative Assistant, and IT Developer, the appointee will be expected to take responsibility for three, annual two-day workshops and other events, the editing of resulting online publications, the development of online resources, including a bibliography of Gandharan art and essays on key topics, and the promotion of the project through social media.

The successful candidate does not need to be a specialist in Gandharan art, but must have some postgraduate research experience either in Gandharan art or a related field (e.g. Central Asian archaeology, or ancient Buddhist art) and a demonstrably strong commitment to promoting Gandharan studies.

The post holder will be based in Oxford, working the equivalent of one day a week, but the specific working pattern is flexible.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 7 December 2016. It is expected that interviews will be held in mid-December 2016.
