Scottish Association for Marine Science - SAMS

SAMS is seeking two Ocean Autonomous Systems and Ocean Data Engineers/Analysts to work within the internationally renowned Environmental Physics and Autonomous Technology Group (EPAT).

You will be highly motivated and interested in Earth system science and in using observations to generate new knowledge. You will have a first degree in a numerical discipline (Physics, Maths, Environmental Science), and excellent computing and communication skills. You will work within a group of five principal scientists, ten researchers and several Ph.D. students. You will be responsible for training this group with the methodologies you develop.

We are seeking to employ two people who can operate effectively along the full data pipeline:

  • making measurements with modern and novel instrumentation at sea and autonomously
  • quality control and meta data production
  • database curation and merger with other data streams
  • ocean data analysis, including production of publication-ready analyses from multiple data sources.

We welcome applicants with skills across two or more of these criteria and we seek to balance the skills of the two successful applicants to cover the entire spectrum of activity as described.

You must also pass an ENG1 medical to fulfil sea-going duties on research cruises.
