The Department of Radio Science and Engineering at the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering is looking for a Doctoral Candidate to join the research group of nanostructured electromagnetic materials led by Professor Constantin Simovski.
Research work of the doctoral candidate will focus in particular on creation of advanced magnetic resonance imaging systems enhanced by metamaterials. The doctoral thesis project will be made in the frame of a research project funded by the European Union and the project tasks for Aalto University are as follows:
- Metasurfaces for decoupling of radiofrequency antennas for 3 Tesla MRI
- Bulk metamaterials for radiofrequency magnetic field enhancement and control of the spatial distribution of electromagnetic fields in the patient body for 3 Tesla MRI
- Prospective metamaterials and metasurfaces for 7 Tesla MRI
These tasks are common with those referred to ITMO University, St. Petersburg in the EU-project and research work is done in close collaboration with them. The doctoral study program includes several research visits to ITMO University, mainly related to experimental investigations. The tentative supervisor from ITMO University is Associate Professor Stanislav Glybosky. The doctoral research is multidisciplinary – on the edge between radio physics and signal processing.
- Master’s degree in Radio Science and Engineering or closely related field
- Good knowledge of electrodynamics
- Knowledge of signal processing is an advantage
- Good command of English is necessary
SALARY AND CONTRACT TERMS
The position will be initially filled for 1 year, with possible extensions max to 4 years altogether. The expected starting salary for Doctoral Candidate is 2300 €/month, and it will increase with performance over time. The contract includes occupational health benefits and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. The starting time is February 2017.
