Dr Fedrizzi leads the Edinburgh Mostly Quantum Laboratory, which conducts research in experimental quantum photonics with focus on exploiting multi-photon entanglement for applications in quantum communication, computation and metrology. The group currently has 3 postdocs and 3 PhD students. Our experimental research program is supported by two of the four UK Quantum Hubs - the York Hub for Quantum Communication, and the Glasgow hub for Quantum Imaging, and there is ample opportunity of interfacing with the UK Quantum Technology agenda.
The main research project is to create ultrafast, medium-scale photonic cluster states and apply them to a range of problems in quantum computing, quantum imaging and metrology, quantum communication and quantum foundations.
Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant area of experimental physics or applied physics or related subject (or a thesis submitted by the start date of the project) and must have proven academic ability and a demonstrable high level of technical competence in experimental science and the analysis / modelling of the results. Strong theoretical understanding and thorough grounding in experimental techniques relevant to the project is also required.
