The appointment will be on UCL Grade 8. 

Professor Anthony Smith, Vice-Provost (Education & Student Affairs), is responsible for the teaching, learning and assessment agenda at UCL, providing leadership on education issues at an institutional level.His immediate team is responsible for developing and implementing the institutional Education Strategy, and for working in partnership with CALT Centre for Advancing Learning and Teaching), Registry and UCLU on projects to improve all aspects of the student experience at UCL. The wider team includes the CALT, who lead on the Connected Curriculum and the development of research-based education at UCL, and for Life Learning, UCL’s CPD and short-courses team. Key projects and initiatives run out of the Vice-Provost’s office include:• the Global Citizenship Programme for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students• UCL’s student surveys, including the National Student Survey (NSS), the student barometer and the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES)• the Teaching and Learning Portal, the key information source for all involved with education at UCL• UCL’s strategic education partnerships, with the UCL Academy, Newham Collegiate Sixth Form College and City & Islington Sixth Form CollegeThe Head of Communications (Education and Student Affairs) is responsible primarily for the internal communications of the Office of the Vice-Provost (Education and Student Affairs) to staff about the education agenda at UCL. The postholder will develop and lead on the implementation of a high-level communications strategy for UCL’s 2016-21 Education Strategy, which responds to Theme 2 of UCL2034, our institutional strategy. In addition, the post-holder will ensure that UCL’s internal and, where appropriate, external communications convey consistent education messages to their varied target audiences (staff, students, senior decision makers, external agencies (including HEFCE and QAA) and other higher education institutions). The post-holder will provide regular advice, guidance and input into decisions taken by the Vice-Provost (Education and Student Affairs), the Director of Education Planning and the Director of CALT, and will exercise a high degree of autonomy in managing the communications work of the broader OVP (ESA) team.

You will be a strong communications strategist, with experience of working with senior leaders; you should have:• an excellent understanding and experience of the communications planning processes• experience of editorial management and of line managing a team of writers and contributors• flawless written English and strong judgement of style and tone• good political awareness
