Research Development Manager

University of Bristol - Research and Enterprise Development

We are seeking to appoint a Research Development Manager to work primarily with the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly valued team, based within the Division of Research and Enterprise Development. You will work with a team of Research Development Managers (RDMs), with the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for Health Research and with the academic community to provide strategic support for the research within and across your Faculty, to identify opportunities for research funding, and to provide expert advice on preparation of major or strategic research bids.

There are two Medical Science Faculties at Bristol and while this appointment faces Biomedical Sciences, the research development staff that support these Faculties work flexibly across them as appropriate. You should therefore be equally comfortable working with pre clinical researchers or in the clinical environment. Knowledge of appropriate funders (strategies and delivery plans, requirements and assessment procedures) is essential. The postholder will be expected to work closely with the Faculty finance teams and, if needed, with the R+D offices in the NHS Trusts to ensure seamless delivery of research support.

We are looking for someone who can both work in a team and on their own initiative and you should have either a postgraduate degree or equivalent experience and have a good knowledge of research funding. Experience of working in the HE, NHS or funding sector would be particularly useful. Strong interpersonal, organisational and IT skills are essential.

For an informal discussion please contact Zoe Holland ( or Lorna Colquhoun (

Closing date for applications is 3rd January. Interviews will be held on 11th January.

The University of Bristol is committed to equality and we value the diversity of our staff and students.
