Davies High Voltage Laboratory at the University of Southampton: The laboratory has an international reputation for excellence in research into many high voltage phenomena and, with its long history of successfully attracting both industrial and research council funding, has become one of the most comprehensive facilities of its kind in Europe. Much of the activity concerns the development and testing of polymeric insulation systems and, uniquely, the laboratory combines comprehensive electrical testing facilities with extensive material preparation and characterization tools. For further details, please see: http://www.highvoltage.ecs.soton.ac.uk/.
The successful applicant should have a PhD* and experience of conducting research related to the development of advanced polymeric materials for use in high voltage dielectric applications. Knowledge of polymer materials, high voltage testing and chemical modification to adjust macroscopic physical properties would be particularly beneficial. The research project is funded by Innovate UK/EPSRC and involves an international consortium and, as such, the successful applicant must be available to attend and contribute to occasional project review meetings in Europe.
In addition to the above specific research experience, the successful applicant should also be able to present research results at project review meetings and conferences, generate project reports, write up research results for publication in leading peer-viewed journals and to work proactively with colleagues involved in the project to achieve the required project outcomes.
This is a fixed-term post until 31 March 2019.
