The University of Northampton is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Education (Teacher Education: Primary) to make a major contribution to initial teacher training and postgraduate professional development (masters level) in mathematics for primary teachers. The successful candidate will also provide leadership of professional studies.
Initial Teacher Training is the largest taught portfolio in the Faculty of Education and Humanities and makes a significant contribution to the University’s Strategic aims. The Faculty has an excellent regional and national reputation for the quality of its programmes. The Faculty’s ITT programmes (early years; primary undergraduate and postgraduate including School Direct) were judged “Good” by Ofsted in 2014. ITT programmes have a strong reputation for high retention, employment and trainee satisfaction rates and the University of Northampton is currently one of the providers who have been given a three year allocation of training places for PGCE Primary. The Faculty has an excellent reputation for its teaching and research and is committed to continually improving learning, teaching and assessment for students. Professional Studies covers all aspects of developing to be a teacher and is a core module in all programmes. The University offers a Post Graduate Certificate in Mathematics, a long established and successful programme providing subject knowledge development to primary teachers in the region.
The post holder will have excellent pedagogical and subject knowledge in mathematics and professional studies together with the ability to convey this with skill and enthusiasm. The post also requires excellent skills in using innovative approaches to learning, teaching and assessment along with effective collaborative working with a range of academic, professional and support staff to support the achievement of best practice in primary education. The development of high quality blended learning is a strategic goal of the University.
