Eight-hour Stipendiary Lecturership in Ancient History

University of Oxford - Brasenose College and St Anne’s College

Brasenose College and St Anne’s College wishes to appoint an eight-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Ancient History for five terms from 1 April 2017 to 30 December 2018. The Stipendiary Lecturer will teach (or organise the teaching of) the college-based Ancient History components of the Literae Humaniores, Ancient and Modern History, and Classical Archaeology and Ancient History undergraduate degree courses at the two colleges; and organise the teaching of archaeology options for the same degrees. Teaching requirements will be four hours per week at Brasenose and four hours per week at St Anne’s, over eight teaching weeks.

The person appointed will participate in admissions procedures, open days and assist generally in the running of Ancient History in Brasenose, in collaboration with the Classics History Fellows and Lecturers. The person appointed will also be expected to undertake organisational responsibilities including setting and marking Collections, the pastoral supervision of undergraduates, and other general duties associated with the tutorial system.

The combined salary will be between £17,368 to £19,534 p.a. (pro rata) (current rates), plus allowances depending on experience. Pro rata salaries reflect the fact that teaching takes place during term-time and that each term worked is an equal third of the full annual payment.
