To investigate the theoretical performance limits of a state of the art wireless vehicular communications and networking problem.
This is a unique opportunity to propose, and be part of, an open-ended project at the early stages. Thus, we are seeking candidates with ideas and high levels of motivation to work in the broad areas related to VANETs, V2I, V2V,V2X, IEEE802.11p research. Candidates with experience, or knowledge of cooperative communications, network design, link aggregation, data fusion, routing, 5G etc. are encouraged.
This project will be purely theoretical, with desired outputs that are based upon mathematical principles so previous experience in the use of MATLAB is essential. It should also be noted that this is a communications/ICT project and an educational background in this area, or one closely related, is also thus essential.
First or upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in a related subject, e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Maths.
Overseas applicants should have IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL.
This is expected to be a competitive application, and so each candidate is asked to submit a document/cover letter/proposal that highlights an idea of theirs, with further emphasis upon why their skills and experiences makes them suitable for the position.
It is expected that the selection panel will use a score sheet similar to the one used by the highly prestigious Chancellor’s Scholarship
Stipend of circa £14,000 per annum will be provided to the successful candidate as well as a fee waiver at Home/EU level. The funding duration for this project is 3 years.
Should an overseas candidate wish to apply and be successful they will receive the stipend and a fee waiver up to Home/EU level. For the 15/16 academic year the waiver would be £4,052 however the student will need to provide funding for the additional sum to make this up to overseas fees. Overseas fees for 15/16 academic year are £18,800 making the difference £14,748. This difference will rise each academic year in line with the fee levels
