Applications are invited for a fixed term post to cover the maternity leave of Mass Spectrometry Manager in the Department of Chemistry at UCL. The Mass Spectrometry Facility in the Department serves Chemistry and other UCL departments. It also houses the Bloomsbury Environmental Isotope Facility (BEIF) run by UCL Earth Sciences and Geography. The postholder will be an experienced practical laboratory manager able to work both on their own and as part of a team. Duties include being responsible for the analysis of samples submitted to the mass spectrometry service from organic, chemical biology and inorganic chemistry groups, from other UCL Departments and from outside UCL; providing LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS and MALDI-ToF training for post-graduate students, post-doctoral researchers and other staff as required.
The post is to undertake specific maternity leave cover the duration of which is dependent upon completion of the cover, return of the post-holder or cessation of the funding, whichever is sooner. The post is available immediately and in the first instance the cover is estimated to be 10 months.
The successful candidate will have a first degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline, and have in-depth knowledge of mass spectrometry and separation science. You must have experience in operating LC-MS, GC-MS and magnetic sector MS equipment, experience of working in a research environment and contributing effectively to the work of chemistry research groups in an educational environment, and excellent communication skills in English both written and verbal.
