Reader / Professor of Physical Chemistry/Chemical Physics

The University of Glasgow seeks to appoint a Reader / Professor with a research profile in Physical Chemistry / Chemical Physics within the School of Chemistry to lead, maintain and expand high-quality research at an international level of excellence; provide academic leadership in developing and enhancing the research profile of the School and contribute actively to the planning, organisation and delivery of teaching at all levels. 

Applicants will be expected to have an outstanding publication portfolio, a sustained record of substantial funding, e.g. RCUK or ERC as well as demonstrable ability, drive and organisational skills to contribute to research leadership and to provide leadership to colleagues in the delivery of high quality research and teaching. 

Appointees will be expected to engage in high-quality research, actively contribute to teaching and undertake relevant administration within the School of Chemistry. Successful candidates will be encouraged to initiate and participate in collaborative research within the supportive and vibrant interdisciplinary environment that is nurtured by the School. 

The School of Chemistry is one of the leading chemistry research schools in the UK and, as part of WestCHEM, was rated 4th in terms of Power Rating in REF2014, with 94% of research graded as 3* or 4* overall. The School has a strong background in chemical research with a diverse set of programmes spanning the entire field.  Research is grouped into five key themes: Catalysis, Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry, Complex Chemical Systems, Dynamics and Structure, Nanoscience and Materials. Preference is placed on applications from candidates who complement existing strengths in physical chemistry (http://www.gla.ac.uk/schools/chemistry/). 

The School of Chemistry comprises 31 academic staff and 55 postdoctoral researchers and research fellows; the currently advertised positions and future appointments will result in expansion over the next five years. The School has a large population of both postgraduates (~120 PhD students) and undergraduates (approximately 600 at Level-1, under a faculty entry system, 250 at Level-2, 100 at level-3 and 60–80 at Level-4) and provides a range of Honours courses, including Chemistry, Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Physics, at both BSc and MSci levels.
