Programmer - ERC-funded Project Social Robots

Bangor University - School of Psychology

The Social Brain in Action Lab (SoBA Lab) at Bangor University, Wales, invites applications for a fixed-term programmer (equivalent to a postdoctoral position) to serve primarily as a computer and robotics programmer for the ERC Starting Grant ‘Social Robots’ with Prof. Emily S. Cross. The post is advertised as 80% FTE in the first instance, with actual FTE for the appointment to be agreed upon between the successful applicant and PI. The successful applicant will consult on robot selection and will programme and modify the humanoid robots used for all experiments involved in the ‘Social Robots’ project. In addition, the successful applicant will serve as a liaison between the robotics and social neuroscience communities. He or she will work closely with the PI to ensure all robotic aspects of experimental work remain on the cutting edge of hardware and software developments, facilitate communication of project findings to the robotics community by way of conference presentations and publications targeted at specialised robotics journals (e.g., International Journal of Robotics Research; IEEE Transactions on Robotics, etc.), and generally support the other team members with the technical elements of their empirical research. The research officer will be a key member of the Social Robots team and will work closely with other team members.

A post graduate degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, or Psychology), as well as outstanding programming skills are essential. Experience working with robotic interfaces is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to commence on as soon as possible and the post is available for a period of 1.5 years. The initial appointment is for 1.5 years, with the possibility for an extension to 3 years subsequent to outstanding performance.

Starting Salary: £32,004 p.a. pro rata (on Grade 7)
