We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Hofmann group at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. This post, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, is fixed-term with a maximum duration of 3 years.
The aim is to use Bragg Coherent X-ray diffraction (BCXD) techniques to probe the complex lattice distortions associated with crystal defects. The successful applicant will develop new BCXD techniques that make it possible to study extended samples that are highly defective. S/he will use these to probe irradiation-damage-induced strains in materials for future fusion reactors. Combined with electron microscopy and multiscale calculations, these observations will provide new insight into the structure and properties of irradiation-induced defects.
You will hold a PhD/DPhil (or be near completion) in material science/physics/engineering or a closely related subject, together with relevant experience. Applicants should have experience of carrying out coherent X-ray diffraction experiments at synchrotron facilities, with a proven ability to develop algorithms to analyse coherent X-ray diffraction data. A strong publication record, excellent communication skills, self-motivation and a willingness to travel for experiments abroad are also essential.
Informal queries may be addressed to Professor Felix Hofmann: firstname.lastname@example.org.
You will be required to upload a supporting statement (describing how your research interests, past experience and future plans fit the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
Applications must be received by 12.00 midday on 22 March 2017.
