The College wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to support the work of Professor Stephen Rippon in his Exeter: A Place in Time Project. This full time AHRC funded post is available for three years from the 1st June 2017 to 31st May 2020. The successful applicant will assist Professor Rippon in data collection and analysis, the writing of reports, organising an academic conference and programme of public engagement activities. 

Some of the main duties of the post will include:

  • - Undertaking research into the archaeology of Exeter and its local, regional, and international hinterland, including preparing phased maps reconstructing the layout of the city in key periods based upon published and unpublished archives.
  • - contribute to the writing of a research-based monograph synthesising the archaeology of Exeter and its socio-economic relationships with its local, regional and international hinterlands
  • - assist in the editorship of a second volume of specialist papers

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, and communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically, to academic and non-academic audiences. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to write text and prepare illustrative material to a professional publication standard, to use GIS and social media, and work well within a team.

The starting salary will be from £26,829 within the grade E band (£26,052 - £29,301).
