Postdoctoral Position in Law - Impact of Pharmaceuticals on the Environment

University of Aarhus - Department of Law

The Department of Law at Aarhus BSS invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a new research project 'Pharmaceuticals in the Environment: Legal Solutions Informed by Behavioral Science.'

The starting date for the successful candidate is 1 October 2017 or subject to mutual agreement.

The research project
The purpose of the project ‘Pharmaceuticals in the Environment: Legal Solutions Informed by Behavioral Science’ is to prevent the escalation of risks connected with disposal of pharmaceuticals to the environment during pharmaceuticals manufacturing and consumption.

The project thus focuses on examining regulatory measures for responsible pharmaceutical waste management. While in respect to production, this mostly means reviewing and working with pharmaceutical and waste legislation, in the area of consumption new insights are needed from behavioral science in order to evaluate and propose changes to the regulation of take-back schemes. The main research question is: How can law informed by behavioral science enhance responsible disposal of pharmaceutical waste both on the industrial and household levels?

Job description
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the overall objectives of the project by being involved in dogmatic research of EU waste, environmental and pharmaceutical law, and empirical data collection as well as the other phases of the research process, including empirical data analysis, writing of articles and the ongoing development of the project.

The position is research-oriented, but involves also teaching assignments. This means that the successful candidate is expected to provide a dedicated contribution to both the department’s research and teaching environment.

Your qualifications
The candidate must hold a PhD in law and have experience within one or more of the following areas: Waste law, pharmaceutical law, environmental law, mixed research methods combining dogmatic and empirical research. Experience with empirical and/or experimental methods in law is especially welcome.

The successful candidate demonstrates a high level of English skills.
