An exciting opportunity has developed to join “The Trust Map”, a research project funded through the Empathy and Trust in Communicating Online funding call administered by the Economic and Social Research Council in conjunction with the RCUK Connected Communities, Digital Economy and Partnership for Conflict, Crime and Security themes, and supported by the Defence Science and Technology Lab and the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure. Led by PI, Dr Karen N Salt, University of Nottingham, the Nottingham-based post will assist in the conducting of high-quality interdisciplinary research and play a central role synthesising data and writing up findings on the project.
The role will from part of “The Trust Map” research team based in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies and work closely with colleagues at the Centre for Research in Race and Rights and liaise with the wider research community at Nottingham, including related projects and initiatives on trust, inclusion and participatory approaches to empowerment. The post holder will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary project team that includes collaborators at Durham and Northumbria, along with project partners from across the UK. Main responsibilities will include analysing and illuminating data, interpreting reports, evaluating and criticising texts and bringing new insights to the research topic, planning and conducting research using recognised approaches, methodologies and techniques, including content analysis, social network analysis and sustained community-based activities, such as interviews and participant observation. The role holder will also be responsible for writing up research for publication and/or contributing to the dissemination of research for diverse audiences, including peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers and policy briefs and travelling, periodically, to project meetings, for outreach activities and dissemination events with team members, project partners and local and national stakeholders.
Applicants should have (or be near to completion of) a PhD or equivalent in Sociology, Geography, Cultural Studies, Public Policy, Critical Race Theory, or related arts or social science field as well as experience of working with a wide variety of documents and datasets. Experience in undertaking literature reviews, engaging in data analysis, conducting fieldwork and establishing and conducting community-based activities is also essential as ability to conduct own research, engage in data analysis and present findings to diverse audiences.
This vacancy is available on a part-time basis (29 hours per week) and is fixed term until 30/01/2018.
