Fixed Term appointment for 32 months

Imperial College London is a science-based institution with the greatest concentration of high-impact research of any major UK university.  The Faculty of Engineering, consistently rated among the best in the world, is made up of 10 academic departments and is committed to increasing its research activity by focusing on engineering-led multidisciplinary growth areas that target a number of global challenges. All of our academic departments are located on a single campus in South Kensington, giving a concentration of talent that creates a stimulating and vibrant research community. You can find out more about our staff benefits, including generous annual leave entitlements and our excellent professional development opportunities, here:

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to join the Ultrasound Laboratory for Imaging and Sensing (ULIS) Group in the Department of Bioengineering, to develop new ultrasound techniques for 3D imaging and quantification of arterial blood flow and wall shear stress using microbubble contrast agents, ultrafast data acquisition (up to 20k fps), and signal processing. Blood flow characteristics have a profound influence on the initiation, progression and stability of cardiovascular disease such as atherosclerosis. Accurate measurement of flow is also critical for diagnostic purposes, and in the development of new therapeutic devices. This is a British Heart Foundation (BHF) funded project, and is expected to start in early July 2017 at the latest.

The successful candidate will develop and evaluate the ultrasound imaging techniques, working with other members of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of engineers, biologists and clinicians.

You must have a good undergraduate degree in Engineering or Physics (or equivalent), and a PhD in a related area (or equivalent) for appointment at Research Associate level. You will have knowledge in ultrasound imaging principles and previous experiences in experimental research work.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £31,740 - £33,370 per annum.
