Kingston University - Life Sciences, Pharmacy and Chemistry
|Location:||Kingston Upon Thames|
|Placed on:||12th April 2017|
|Closes:||9th May 2017|
Recently named as one of the world’s top new Universities, Kingston University is an ambitious and dynamic Institution based across four campuses just outside London. Host to nearly 20,000 students, with its heritage dating back to 1899, it became a University in 1992 and provides a range of outstanding teaching, learning and research opportunities through its five-faculty structure. Indeed, solid student recruitment, a burgeoning research profile, a strong reputation for widening participation, and a £325m investment in the Campuses, places the University in an excellent position to withstand the forthcoming challenges that the Higher Education Sector as a whole will endure.
The School of Life Sciences, Pharmacy and Chemistry sits within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing which is led by Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean, Professor Mike Sutcliffe. The School delivers degrees right across the breadth of these subjects, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It has a lively research culture that is primarily delivered through the Interdisciplinary Hub for the Study of Health and Age-related conditions (IhSHA). Located at the Penrhyn Road Campus, the School enjoys outstanding facilities, and has a solid portfolio of accreditation including The General Pharmaceutical Council, The Royal Society of Chemistry, Royal Society of Biology and the Institute of Biomedical Science.
The Post of Professor and Head of School provides leadership and vision for the development of the School in line with Kingston University’s overall strategy. This requires leading teaching, learning, research, and ensuring that high standards are adhered to, whilst developing appropriate relationships with commercial partners and other stakeholders as necessary. The post-holder will hold line management and budgetary responsibility for the School, including the opportunity to bid for resource allocation for capital expenditure. From a personal perspective, the University seeks to appoint an individual with a level of personal ambition that matches Kingston’s. Equally she or he will need to have a strong research profile, an excellent appreciation of the dynamics of the student experience, and a genuine buy-in to the equality and diversity and widening participation.
