Lecturer in Art Therapy

We are looking for a HCPC registered Art Therapist to teach and support the management of the Art Therapy programmes with a particular responsibility for recruitment and admissions. You will have teaching experience at post graduate level and have experience of professional practice environments. You will join a successful and enthusiastic team where art therapy is part of a thriving art school context.

Main duties & responsibilities include:

  • Organisation and management of recruitment, interviews and admissions for MA Art Therapy
  • Marketing, promotional work and profile development of the programme including on-going communications with applicants
  • Liaison tutor for service users forum
  • Module / year leadership
  • Teaching, preparation and assessment on relevant modules
  • Contribution to placement supervision
  • Development of students’ professional skills
  • Building relevant external contacts for the benefit of Art Therapy
  • Making an annual contribution to academic research linking with other work in the School and / or University
  • Design and development of teaching, learning and assessment materials for a range of modules including module leadership; making a contribution to programmes development, innovations and revisions
  • Be responsible for the pastoral care of students and aspects of student support
  • Take the initiative to develop links, curriculum revisions, learning and teaching innovations, module and programme development and income generation projects

Skills and experience needed

  • Being a recognised expert in specific aspects of art therapy and contributing to the MA Art Therapy and Foundation Certificate courses and research in these areas
  • Experience of teaching and assessment at postgraduate level, with relevant subject expertise
  • Track record of some public outputs as practitioner which constitute a research practice, or active potential for further research development
  • Expert in art therapy subject knowledge and skills; and their relationship to varied professional contexts
  • Knowledge and skills related to different art and media practices
  • Demonstrate an ability to identify and teach a broad and stimulating curriculum; able to relate to a diverse student group
  • Experience of different professional environments
  • Ability to balance a complex workload
  • Experience of planning and administrative activities, broadly relevant to the post

Qualifications required

  • Postgraduate training qualification in Art Therapy
  • Undergraduate qualification in art or related track record of art practice
  • Fully qualified and registered Art Therapist with HCPC license number with substantial proven experience, post-qualification practice
  • IT skills related to the subject and to the teaching environment
  • Advanced presentation skills including multi-media presentation skills
