Lecturer in Practical Ecology

University of Gloucestershire - School of Natural and Social Sciences - Environmental Sciences Group

The School of Natural and Social Sciences is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Practical Ecology to support teaching, research, and consultancy in our Environmental Sciences Group.

The permanent fraction (0.7 FTE) of this post will be substantively linked to our MSc Applied Ecology and Biology undergraduate provision. The purpose of the fixed-term fraction (0.3 FTE) is to support the growth of research in the Environmental Sciences Group over the next 2 years. At the end of that period, this temporary element may be extended for a further fixed term or converted to a permanent post.

You will have wide applied ecological experience, with the potential to lead teaching on ecological methods, biological surveying, and species identification for several taxonomic groups. Knowledge and experience of UK species and ecosystems is essential and practical knowledge of plant ecology is desirable. Previous involvement in applied ecological research is essential; outlining a personal strategy to lead and develop work in this area would be beneficial.

Abilities to educate and supervise students across all levels of Higher Education, to lead and contribute to taught and research-based fieldwork, and to work pro-actively as an individual and team member are essential.

The Environmental Sciences Group at Gloucestershire has a strong reputation for high-quality, research-informed teaching. It has consistently been submitted for research assessment and forms part of the University’s research investment theme of Environmental Dynamics & Governance. Set in the attractive surrounds of Cheltenham, our small class sizes, dedicated facilities, and emphasis on inspiring field research provide a welcoming and positive working environment.

Informal enquiries may be made to Anne Goodenough, Course Leader, MSc Applied Ecology (aegoodenough@glos.ac.uk) or Julia Webb, Course Leader, undergraduate Biology provision (jwebb@glos.ac.uk). See http://www.glos.ac.uk/AEC for an overview of the MSc course, and http://www.glos.ac.uk/sciences for further information on our Biology undergraduate provision and information on the School and its staff.

This post is available for a start in August 2017.

Closing Date: Tuesday 30 June 2017 12 noon (Applications must reach us by this date).

Interview Date: Wednesday 21 June 2017.
