Professor

Loughborough University - School of Science

The School of Science at Loughborough University is seeking to appoint an ambitious candidate to a Chair with a view to offering major academic leadership across the School and beyond. We are particularly interested in those who are keen to provide significant leadership in learning and teaching in addition to intellectual leadership in their chosen field of research.

The successful candidate will hold a Chair in the most appropriate department or centre within the School of Science. At present the School is composed of four discipline-based departments (Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematical Sciences and Physics) and one long-standing Research Centre (Mathematics Education Centre). We have also very recently launched two new cross-School centres, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical Modelling, and the Centre for Imaging Science.

Candidates should have an established track record in research and of attracting significant external funding. They will initiate and participate in collaborative activity with School members and across the University.

Candidates should also have a track record of providing leadership in learning and teaching such as, for example, development and delivery of modern curricula or innovation in learning and teaching.

Those who currently hold an externally-funded fellowship are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants holding fellowships will, if they wish, continue to hold it until it completes and then be appointed to this position.

The appointment will be on a full time, open-ended professorial contract, as soon as possible after interview. A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered commensurate with experience and qualifications. A competitive start-up package will also be negotiated.

For informal discussions about this role, please contact the Dean of Science, Prof. Mark Biggs on M.Biggs@lboro.ac.uk
