Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Islamic Art

University of Edinburgh - History of Art

College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

Applications are invited for a full-time, permanent position in History of Art in any area of Islamic Art, to start on 3 January or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is the result of Dr Alain George’s appointment to a professorial chair at the University of Oxford.

The School of History of Art has a longstanding, global reputation in the art and architecture of the medieval Islamic world, and we would naturally welcome candidates who are able to build on History of Art’s traditional areas of strength. The field is open, however, to scholars with research interests in any area of Islamic art, and we would encourage candidates who are able to make connections between their research and other areas of History of Art expertise. Applications will be particularly welcome form candidates who can connect History of Art with other areas of the University (for example, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies).

Senior Lecturer: Grade UE09 annual salary of £49,772 - £55,998 per annum

Lecturer: Grade UE08 annual salary of £39,324 - £46,924 per annum

Depending on their background and experience the candidate will be appointed to either grade UE08 or UE09.

Closing Date - 5pm GMT on Wednesday 5th July 2017, we intend to hold interviews on Tuesday 5th September.
