A PhD studentship position has become available in Foundational Statistics

The Statistical Cybermetrics Research Group (http://cybermetrics.wlv.ac.uk/) of the University of Wolverhampton invites applications for a 3 year University of Wolverhampton PhD studentship in the area of Foundational Statistics.

This PhD is hosted by the Statistical Cybermetrics Research Group at the University of Wolverhampton. Most of the group’s research was categorised as “World leading” in the most recent research evaluation (REF2014). It is a small but vibrant team with a high success rate for PhD students. Applications from underrepresented groups are welcome.

The majority of statistical research into bibliometric and altmetric indicators has focussed on identifying specific statistical distributions that model citation counts. This project seeks to extend this research by considering further classes of statistical model, for example generalised additive models, generalised additive mixed models, random effect models, to further enhance the research.

This is a funded bursary which will consist of a stipend towards living expenses (£14,500 per year) and remission of fees.

Entry requirements

A successful applicant must have:

  • A good honours degree or equivalent in Maths, Statistics or a related field
  • Good knowledge of statistics.
