Lecturer (Hospitality Management Top Up)

Report to: Programme Leader and Academic Manager

Location: Gants Hill

As a Visiting lecturer, you will be teaching Hospitality Management Top Up subjects during the term time and off term you will be engaged in the development of learning materials, assignment briefs, marking of assignments, Internal Verification of Assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Delivering high quality and inspirational teaching and learning to an agreed timetable
  2. Providing teaching and assessment opportunities in line with the relevant awarding body requirements to promote access to achievement
  3. Providing support to students in the role of a personal tutor; responding to the needs of students and adapt the service provided to them
  4. Attending Lecturer’s meetings and Assessment Board meetings
  5. Planning, designing and preparing lecture notes and reviewing course content
  6. Ensuring that the learning objectives and the learning needs of students are met by the teaching content, methods of delivery and learning materials
  7. Monitoring student progress highlighting any concerns, refer or resolve standard welfare issues as deemed appropriate
  8. Setting of assessment criteria and assignments marking
  9. Providing formative feedback to students on their assignments
  10. Maintaining supportive and professional relationship with students, to help students become part of the learning and teaching community
  11. Assisting in recruitment and admission of new students
  12. Performing any other tasks or activities that fall within the overall scope of the job

Person Specification & Key Skills:

  • A first degree or equivalent
  • A higher degree and/or a teaching qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Successful track record of teaching University courses
  • Managing teaching and learning leading to the achievement of excellent results
  • A self-starter with a “can-do” approach focused on achievement and continuous improvement
  • Ability to work confidentially
  • A commitment to equality and diversity
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to teach and motivate others
