The appointment will be on UCL Grade 8. The salary range will be £42,304 - £49,904 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Institute for Structural and Molecular Biology (ISMB) is seeking to appoint a lectureship in the field of Single Molecular Biophysics.

The ISMB (www.ismb.lon.ac.uk) is a centre of excellence, which jointly consists of the Department of Biological Sciences at Birkbeck College and the Research Department of Structural & Molecular Biology at University College London (UCL).

The Institute provides a scientific environment conducive to world-class research in the field of biomolecular science. Work at the Institute seeks to integrate the cell and molecular biosciences to investigate the molecular basis of human diseases. We want to recruit an outstanding applicant with strong leadership qualities who is capable of developing world-class, interdisciplinary research in the chosen subject.

We are particularly interested (but not limited to) in applications of molecular tweezers, single molecule FRET (fluorescence resonance energy transfer) or/and single molecule imaging to the investigation of cellular molecular machines and motors. Duties will involve supervising PhD students and other researchers, in addition to teaching relevant courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and having excellent administrative skills.

Successful candidates should have a PhD in a subject related area. Demonstrable ability to initiate and conduct leading-edge research coupled with enthusiasm for teaching with the determination to make a positive impact as part of a team. Writing successful grant applications and a proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality research, leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals are essential. Offer will be conditional to the selected candidate successfully competing for 5-year fellowships from grant funders such as the Wellcome Trust, MRC, BBSRC or others.
