The Micro and Nano Flows Group at the University of Warwick are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop new mathematical models and simulation techniques for small-scale interfacially-dominated flows. Within the broad area, there is flexibility to tailor the research direction towards the interests and background of the candidate.

The Group at Warwick is part of a consortium of three internationally-leading UK research institutions with Daresbury Laboratory and University of Edinburgh targeting the unconventional nano- and micro-scale fluid dynamics needed to simulate and design technologies of the future. This is funded by a flagship £3.4M EPSRC Programme Grant.

This position is to work with Dr James Sprittles Maths and Professor Duncan Lockerby Engineering at the University of Warwick, and you will be based in the Mathematics Institute, which in REF2014 was placed first in the UK for Research Environment with 92% of the research was rated world leading or internationally excellent. You will also be integrated into an ever-expanding group of 13 researchers including 6 fellow Postdocs at Warwick see and will be expected to participate in the weekly group meetings.

You should have or be due to submit soon a PhD, or have equivalent experience, in physics, applied mathematics, in an engineering science, or computational science. You will need to have a strong background in mathematical modelling and some experience of computational simulation. You will have a record of research papers published in journals or accepted to be published .

A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, you will be able to manage your own workload, working both independently and as part of a team as required. You will demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm for the research programme and the development of further research opportunities.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure £28,453 pa . Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure £29,301 pa .
