Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Immunology 2 posts

You are invited to join the laboratory of Professor Lars Fugger, as part of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Oxford. You will lead and collaborate in multi-disciplinary research projects designed to understand genetic susceptibility pathways within the immune system, which confer risk to autoimmune disease, in particular multiple sclerosis MS . MS is a neuroinflammatory autoimmune disease, which results in devastating disablement for many patients, and whose treatments remain limited and non-curative. The aetiology of MS is incomplete and our goal is to increase our understanding of disease cause, allow for patient stratification and ultimately aim to expand treatment options.

Applicants will require a comprehensive background in cellular and/or molecular biology and have experience working with primary human cells or tissues. Our research programme includes a highly interdisciplinary team of scientists, using cutting-edge techniques and collaborating with several world-leading international scientists. We work closely with clinicians, obtain tissue from several UK biobanks and patient groups, and fully support translational research whenever possible.

You will hold a PhD or equivalent in an appropriate discipline, such as immunology, genetics or biochemistry. You will have specialist knowledge within the field in order to establish and drive your own research projects. You must be able to work independently, have excellent communication skills and have the ability to present and write about scientific data to a highly professional standard. You will be able to follow and adapt protocols and be willing to learn and develop novel techniques within the lab, as well as with our collaborators.

Two positions are available immediately, each for up to 3 years. The post is full-time for a fixed-term up to 3 years in the first instance.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Thursday 31 August 2017 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
