PhD studentship: Polymer Composites Design Tool for Harsh Environments

Imperial College London - Department of Aeronautics

The key objective of this PhD program is the development and validation of a predictive modelling capability for composite components with complex geometry, enabling use in demanding environments such as ballistic impact, bird strike or drone strike, fan blade containment or shield design for future open rotor aircraft. The research work will involve the use of numerical techniques, specifically the finite element system ls-dyna, to predict the impact performance of laminated composites with fibres, such as Dyneema, Kevlar and Vectran.
