Teaching Fellow in Classics and Ancient History

University of Reading - Classics

Following Prof. Annalisa Marzano’s award of a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship, Reading’s Department of Classics is delighted to be able to appoint a part-time, fixed term teaching fellow in Roman History. We seek to appoint an energetic, highly organised individual who wishes to join a world-leading team of research-active and teaching staff, who will contribute to our undergraduate and postgraduate taught provision.

Specifically, you will convene and co-teach core modules on the History of the Roman Republic (at Part 1) and the Roman Empire (at Part 2). In addition to that, you will be involved in the delivery of other undergraduate modules (including beginners and intermediate-level language teaching in Latin or Ancient Greek), and you will contribute to our Master’s programme in the City of Rome. You will be involved in undergraduate and post-graduate dissertation supervision, and you will support the administrative work of the department.

You will have:

  • A PhD in Classics, Ancient History, or a related subject area.
  • A current and relevant, internationally recognised publication record, as appropriate to your career stage (preferably on one of the following regional contexts: Roman North Africa (beyond Egypt), Roman Spain, Gaul, and/or Roman Britain)
  • A demonstrable ability to teach Latin and/or Ancient Greek to a high standard.
  • Teaching experience in a UK HEI.
