The High Luminosity (HL) upgrade program of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN puts high demands on the stability of the primary beam and requires entirely new approaches in beam dynamics simulations. You will investigate into a range of operating parameters and scenarios in transverse and longitudinal phase space with the aim to identify optimum machine working conditions. Existing modelling techniques and simulation tools shall be adapted to the specific requirements of the HL-LHC project and will be benchmarked as far as possible against results from beam tests in the SPS. The post involves the design and optimisation of beam transport codes, analytical and numerical studies to assess the accelerator performance, as well as measurements with beam. You should have a PhD in a relevant discipline and an excellent background in charged particle beam dynamics, ideally in high energy particle colliders, with experience in both, theory and experiment. You should have an excellent publication track record and be capable of independent work in an international environment and knowledge of both, English and French would be advantageous. The project is funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and CERN and is available immediately until 31 July 2019.
