University of Liverpool - English Language Centre

The English Language Centre offers a wide variety of general English and IELTS, EAP, ESP and TEFL courses to current and prospective University of Liverpool students, as well as individuals and groups from around the world engaged in short-term study. The ELC is a busy department with up to 41 weeks of timetabled delivery each calendar year and ambitious plans to grow its portfolio in Liverpool, University of Liverpool in London, and in collaboration with our partner institutions overseas.

Our University teachers are highly qualified, experienced teaching professionals who can adapt and respond to very different student profiles across our programme portfolio. As a University Teacher with a specific remit as Assessment Officer, you are likely to be most involved with the Pre-sessional programme, but are a member of a single ELC teaching team with responsibility for overseeing assessment (diagnostic, formative, achievement, summative) on all ELC programmes. You will teach across the full range of English Language Centre (ELC) courses, including the summer Pre-sessional, as required; lead on assessment design and development of assessments for ELC programmes, supporting Course Coordinators and others involved in writing assessments; contribute to the design and development of ELC courses, teaching and learning materials across a variety of media, and to ELC academic administration; and play a key role in ensuring a quality student experience.

You should have the following teaching qualifications (or equivalent meeting the requirements of the British Council Accreditation Scheme in the first instance):

  • a DELTA or Trinity Dip TESOL (Level 7), or near successful completion
  • a Masters level qualification or equivalent in TESOL/Applied Linguistics or other relevant area, or currently undertaking an MA (and completed TEFLI certificate)
  • Willingness to obtain a University approved (i.e. HESA recognised) qualification within 3 years of appointment
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
