Research Fellow in Food Systems

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow for the project “Towards prediction of food security crises and effective responses”. This project will investigate new methods to predict food insecurity and assess responses in East Africa in order to improve Early Warning Systems, which can lead to saving lives and livelihoods in the target countries.

These objectives are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the project is funded by the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP), a collaborative initiative by the University of Sussex and Institute of Development Studies to develop interdisciplinary research in sustainability.

The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team led by Professors Martin Todd, Dominic Kniveton, and Dr Pedram Rowhani (Geography), Dr Lars Otto Naess (IDS), and Dr Annemie Maertens (Business, Management, Economics).

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed scientist who will play a key role in this interdisciplinary research to understand the relationship between climate drought events and food security in East Africa.

Your role will also involve research design, data analysis, literature reviews and dissemination activities, alongside general day-to-day project management, and to contribute energetically to wider SSRP activities. The successful candidate will be based in the School of Global Studies but will interact continuously with the whole team across the different Schools/Institutions.
