Ogden Science Officer and Outreach Co-ordinator

The Ogden Science Officer and Outreach Coordinator role is funded 50:50 by the Ogden Trust and UCL. The role of the Coordinator will be to develop our relationship, and that of our subject, with pre-University students with particular relevance to Physics and Astronomy. Our buildings, labs and skilled staff within the Physics and Astronomy Department at UCL will be available to support you in your role as you manage and develop our student engagement activities. You will also create resources to support and enhance Physics teaching in the schools and colleges we engage with. The role incorporates the concept of outreach to people of all ages to encourage interest and participation in the life of the UCL Physics department. We are looking for an innovative Ogden Science educator who can help us develop this area of our activity and can support and enhance our partnerships. The role will be responsible for managing and developing student engagement activities, our relationships with educational bodies, and delivering resources to support and enhance teaching of Physics. The appointee will spend half their time at the UCL Observatory at Mill Hill with the other half based at the Bloomsbury campus. The role is funded for one year in the first instance. We hope that the appointee will be able to join us in time for the new 2017/18 academic year.

The successful candidate will be educated to Degree level (BSc or MSci) in Physics, Astrophysics or Natural Sciences. You will be dedicated to, qualified and experienced in, school education as well as knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the Ogden Science and Isaac Physics programmes. You will want to make a difference and will be able to communicate to professional educators, school students and involve our dynamic researchers and university staff.  You will need to be self-starting, entrepreneurial and be a good time-manager. You will feel comfortable bringing your professional expertise into a multi-skilled team. This is an exciting position for an individual with experience of working in both the secondary and Higher Education (HE) sectors.
