Research Training and Engagement Officer

As part of Birmingham’s research drive and investment in technology, this is one of a set of newly established posts and signals a major commitment to developing the training offer from Research Computing. You will be central to this process and have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the growth of research success at Birmingham

You will be working alongside a diverse set of highly motivated individuals; to be successful you will need to be versatile and adapt your approaches to work with linguists, lawyers, economists, engineers, life scientists etc. to enhance or even transform their capacity to exploit technology in their research. Alongside the essential planning and organizational abilities, you will have the ability to engage groups and the enthusiasm to convey both technical concepts and techniques.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in a subject with a strong data science foundation or equivalent experience
  • Broad ranging experience as a user or provider of advanced computing tools
  • Experience of supporting researchers or others to utilise computing
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills using multiple media
  • Ability to engage and energize a group
  • Experience developing training materials using different media
  • Experience of designing and delivering a range of training, including explaining and embedding fundamental concepts, introducing new users to tools as well as addressing the diverse and highly technical/specific needs of researchers.
