Swansea University’s Top 10 UK ranked College of Engineering is seeking to appoint an international leader in the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

This is a new post created to bring together existing research groups in this area, and to work across the multidisciplinary college research community within the Systems and Process Engineering Centre (SPEC). SPEC is one of four key Research Centres within the College of Engineering; the others being Computational, Materials, Sports and Health. SPEC containing 35 out of 145 overall College of Engineering academic staff. SPEC staff work in an environment which enables excellence in teaching and internationally leading research.

The role of EEE Group Lead will entail strategic leadership and inspirational academic and technical leadership of EEE research at Swansea. The nature of the research group will require the group leader to continue to foster links across the University, and collaborate with colleagues in wide ranging applications to deliver joint impact/publications. The successful applicant would be employed by the College to work closely with EEE staff, and be encouraged to engage with other strategic projects including the Centre for Nano Health (CNH), Welsh Centre for Printing & Coating (WCPC), Sports Science and form links with SPECIFIC, ESRI, Astute, Physics and the recently created department of Chemistry. The successful candidate would also be expected to contribute to the IMPACT (Innovative Materials, Processing and Numerical Technologies) Operation which has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government and Swansea University. IMPACT will deliver a research Centre of Excellence in a new purpose built facility with state-of-the-art equipment, embedded in the Swansea Bay Campus College of Engineering.

The successful applicant will develop and mentor academic colleagues to drive forward the research agenda of the College; develop a sustained output of internationally recognised research publications; generate substantial research funding commensurate with the role; and make a significant contribution in the Research Excellence Framework (REF), building on the performance of the REF2014.

In addition, the Head of Group will be responsible for delivering some high quality and inspiring teaching on our undergraduate and / or postgraduate schemes. The link between research and teaching is a key focus and is seen as vital for successful TEF and employability outcomes. The job also requires a contribution to graduate supervision across the College in addition to College leadership responsibilities.
