Postdoctoral Research Assistant - Insect Resistance and Genome Mapping in Sitka Spruce

The Department of Plant Sciences is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Assistant. This is a 2 year contract funded by the BBSRC. This grant is held by Professor John MacKay and the work is to be conducted in his lab in the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3RB. The research topic is ‘Insect resistance and genome mapping in Sitka spruce’.

The post holder will be responsible for carrying out the research project. Responsibilities also include co-supervision of PhD students and collaborations with other team members and international collaborators, maintaining dated, detailed record of all experiments and results, scientific communication of research.

The post holder should have, or be expected to obtain, a PhD or equivalent in population biology, genetics, genomics, plant sciences, bioinformatics or equivalent. Experience demonstrating an ability to conduct large-scale computational analyses independently. Experience demonstrating an ability to work with large-scale genetic data sets in analyses of genetic segregation data or population genetic analyses. Have a good publication record. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrable ability for team work. Demonstrated experience in linkage mapping or population genetics is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability in linux and scripting languages such as Perl, Python or others to solve research problems. Experience in one or more the following: comparative genetics, biotic interactions, plant sciences. Experience in research supervision or leadership
