Lecturer in Biological Sciences

Staffordshire University - School of Life Sciences & Education

Interview Date:   Thursday 31 August 2017

The Department of Biological Sciences, in the School of Life Sciences and Education, is a small but expanding unit of talented and flexible academics.  Our research strengths currently focus on green walls, applied ecology and entomology, but our plans are to expand particularly in applied and cross-disciplinary areas. We are seeking a highly motivated enthusiastic biologist to join our dynamic team and contribute to teaching across our portfolio and to engage in the development of new and innovative provision.

The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic teacher able to deliver Biological Sciences throughout the curriculum and to inform their teaching with active research. They will help to grow our research reputation and support postgraduate students, in addition to establishing their own research interests through collaboration and opportunities for external funding.

Our undergraduate provision offers two main streams: Biomedical Sciences and Biological Sciences. This new post is to contribute to core teaching across the portfolio and to specialist teaching within the Biological Sciences stream: Animal Biology and Conservation, Biological Sciences and Forensic Biology, including MSci and to contribute to the development of new awards at Masters level.

Applicants for this new post should have a PhD in Biological Sciences and appropriate experience in areas of Organismal Biology and we particularly welcome candidates with experience in animal behaviour and ecology, conservation and biodiversity, urban ecology and other areas that complement our existing research strengths. All awards in our portfolio place an emphasis on practical learning. The successful candidate must be able to devise, develop and deliver practical and field based learning.

The post would suit an early career academic looking for opportunities to integrate into a highly experienced and innovative team.

The University and School are committed to Athena SWAN principles and the promotion of equality and diversity.
