Fellowship by Special Election & Stipendiary Lecturership in Biomedical Sciences

University of Oxford - St Catherine’s College

St Catherine’s College proposes to appoint a four-hour Fellow by Special Election and Stipendiary Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences, with effect from 1 October 2017. The fellowship and lectureship will be for one year in the first instance.

The post holder will be expected to teach four weighted hours a week averaged over the three terms (twenty-four weeks) of the academic teaching year (the college operates a weighting system whereby hours spent teaching groups larger than one person count for more than one hour). College teaching is in small groups (usually two or three students). They will be responsible for teaching selected topics in Year 1 Neuroscience and Cells, one Year 2 Option, FHS Critical Appraisal in Neuroscience, and FHS exchange tutorials on their preferred area of research. In addition, they will be expected to act as the Director of Studies for Biomedical Sciences, playing a full role in the running of Biomedical Sciences in the college, including arranging tuition, participating in the admissions process, setting and marking college examinations, and taking a role in the pastoral care of undergraduates. Informal enquiries about the tutorial teaching requirements may be made to the Director of Studies for Pre-clinical Medicine, Professor Heidi de Wet (email: heidi.de-wet@dpag.ox.ac.uk) and/or the Director of Studies for Psychology, Professor Gaia Scerif (email: gaia.scerif@psy.ox.ac.uk).

The annual stipend for three terms is currently £8,684 and is pensionable. The lecturer will be a member of the Senior Common Room and will have rights of Common Table (i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided free of charge on weekdays and when the college is open). A teaching room will be available in college.

Further particulars and details of how to apply are available on the college’s website at https://www.stcatz.ox.ac.uk/Biomedicalsciences. They can also be obtained from the Personnel Advisor, St Catherine’s College, Manor Road, Oxford OX1 3UJ (email: personnel@stcatz.ox.ac.uk).

This is a college vacancy and the terms and conditions of this post are available at https://www.stcatz.ox.ac.uk/Vacancies. The University Terms and Conditions shown elsewhere on this site do not apply to this post.

Applications should be sent, in a single file, by email to the Personnel Advisor (email: personnel@stcatz.ox.ac.uk) to arrive not later than 12.00 noon on Tuesday 22 August 2017. Applications must include: a completed Application Cover Form (available to download as part of the further particulars); a letter of application including a statement of prior teaching experience; a full curriculum vitae; and the names of two academic referees. A recruitment monitoring form should also be submitted (see further particulars for details).
