Teaching Associate in Twentieth-Century Chinese History

Salary: £29,301 to £38,183 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Applications are invited for the above post based at University Park, School of Humanities, Department of History.

The successful candidate, who should have a track record of high quality teaching at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, will convene and teach China from Revolution to Socialism (Level 3 module), The Rise of Modern China (Level 2), and contribute to teaching The Contemporary World since 1945 (Level 2), Learning History (Level 1) and Making of Modern Asia (Level 1). The candidate will also have personal tutoring responsibilities and will undertake such administrative tasks as agreed with the Head of Department.

Candidates must have a PhD already awarded (or to be awarded by the time they take up the appointment) in modern Chinese (or other relevant East Asian) history, or Chinese/Asian Studies, excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to design and deliver high quality and up-to-date course materials, experience and demonstrable success in delivering undergraduate teaching, research experience and achievement in their field, reflected in research publications, and future research plans. A higher education teaching qualification or equivalent is desirable.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term part-time basis for a period of 3 years, commencing 1 September 2017 (although a later start date in September is negotiable). The hours of work will be approximately 24 hours per week for 36 weeks of the year, mainly occurring during term-time and some flexibility will be required. This post will be paid monthly over 12 months and is equivalent to 0.55fte.
