Specialist Technician Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Biochemistry

The School of Environment and Life Sciences wishes to appoint a Specialist Technician Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry to join the current team in delivering high quality laboratory technical support for teaching and research activities. The School of ELS provides a highly dynamic environment for interdisciplinary teaching and research spanning areas which include human biology and infectious disease, biomedical sciences and medicinal chemistry. The Cockcroft building houses the state-of-the-art facilities which includes the multi-purpose Bodmer teaching laboratory capable of accommodating up to 144 students at any one time and a large number of specialist research labs. Research is co-ordinated through two research centres: The Biomedical Research Centre BRC and the Ecosystems and Environment Research EERC . You would be expected to join the existing team and contribute technical support primarily to taught laboratory modules delivered in trimesters 1 and 2 with the opportunity to contribute to research support during trimester 3. Typical duties involve liaising with senior technical staff and academics to plan, prepare, deliver and clear away taught practical classes and to contribute to the general upkeep of the teaching labs and associated prep rooms. The successful applicant is expected to have a science-based degree and previous experience of providing specialist technical support in 1 or more of the specialisms.
