Manchester Metropolitan University is one of the UK's largest and most popular Universities. We are currently placed in the top 3% of universities globally according to the Times Higher.

This role represent an opportunity to join our small, growing and committed Linguistics-TESOL team delivering high quality teaching, supervision and research activities in Applied Linguistics and TESOL. It is worth noting that the Guardian League Tables 2017 place the provision of modern languages and linguistics at Manchester Metropolitan University in the top 20 in the UK. Further, the team contributed significantly to the success of UoA29 in REF 2014, which was the highest rated UoA in Manchester Metropolitan University’s history.

Our ideal colleague will be a hard-working Lecturer keen to work with like-minded people; who will cherish a positive, ‘can do’ attitude; will be adaptable and able to operate equally well both independently, and as part of a wider team. Team building and team collegiality are very important to us.

Therefore, we’re looking for a colleague willing to contribute to the strategic and operational aims we collectively set for ourselves within the department and the university during a period of transition in HE, and during a period of expansion of our TESOL and Applied Linguistics provision at PGT and PGR levels. If successful, you will contribute to and deliver high quality teaching to an international audience on mostly academic teaching but there will be some commercial and knowledge exchange engagement, too. You will effectively and enthusiastically prepare and deliver original teaching materials informed and led by your personal, published research, as well as your wide-ranging experience in the field.

You will deliver, therefore, high quality, engaging and inspiring teaching in keeping with our team’s culture; benefitting your students, supporting your colleagues, and strengthening our collective reputation.

Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested to hear from applicants who have experience of developing and delivering TEFL-Q / Diploma alongside our TESOL Postgraduate routes. Furthermore, experience of contributing to the development and delivery of online programmes would be a distinct advantage given the maturity of current programme development.

Experience of supervising Ph.D students as part of a wider supervisory team would be a further advantage given the numbers of applicants we attract, currently, and our plans for sustained growth in this area. We must note that we cannot consider applications from candidates not yet in possession of a Ph.D or equivalent e.g. DPhil, or EdD in a directly relevant area. Evidence of a strong showing for REF 2021 is also required.
