Senior Engineer (Java)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer to join the Learning & Research team and provide best practice technical expertise in web application development for the University’s Java-based systems. 

The Learning & Research team is a multi-disciplined team of developers and analysts developing and maintaining core systems and other technology enhanced learning applications, including the student portal called "myUWE" and Blackboard, the University’s Virtual Learning Environment. 

The successful applicant will have experience of the Spring Framework, automated build tools, test frameworks and familiarity with other Java-related tools. They will work on a number of projects developing new and existing functionality, such as student online registration and marking tools to support online assessment. This is an opportunity to contribute and take ownership of developments that will make a real difference to the successful delivery of the University’s Strategic Programmes including the Learning 2020, Performance 2020 and the Student Journey programmes. 

The post-holder will report to the Head of Development, Learning & Research. 

You will have: 
Essential 
• Degree qualification or can demonstrate equivalent experience, 
• A higher degree or a technical/managerial accreditation; 
• Evidence of CPD. 

Desirable 
• A qualification in a technical field.
