The School of Computing, Science and Engineering is a large multi-disciplinary School with over 2,000 students studying on a range of taught and research programmes at BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, MPhil and PhD level. The School is also very active in research. The success of our real-world focus and interdisciplinary ethos was confirmed in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), which placed Salford in the top third of UK universities for research (in terms of Research Power). 83% of work submitted was rated as ‘internationally recognised’ (2* and above) and 43% of work was rated as ‘world-leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*).The Architecture & Built Environment return came top of the Research Fortnight power rankings and had the most world-leading (4*) research. This return also had the most research of international significance (2* and above). 

The School is organised in directorates which includes Computer Science and Software Engineering. The highly successful Directorate of Computer Science and Software Engineering is home to colleagues with national and international recognition for research and is a recognised centre of excellence in teaching. Our learning community of students and staff is thriving and continually developing, with research informed teaching and a platform agnostic, practical approach delivering high levels of student satisfaction. Research and Teaching is supported by state-of-the-art facilities, both on our main campus and at Media City. 

Applications are sought from outstanding individuals with teaching and research strengths in areas that would strengthen and complement our existing team. We are particularly keen to receive applications from individuals with the ability to undertake excellent preparation, teaching and assessment, of research informed, technically focused subjects in the area of Web Development, Programming, Algorithms and/or Software Engineering with potential to teach across the wider CS domain. A developing research profile is essential. Ideally this should relate to the teaching domain and complement the core research directions of our group in the areas of Data/Big Data, and/or Visualisation/VR&AR. 

The candidate we are seeking will be highly motivated, independent and passionate about both teaching and research, capable of delivering the high standards of teaching, supervision and assessment our students expect, and able to contribute to the high quality research of our group. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to maintaining the high regard with which our portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes is held. This post is a fixed term replacement of 3 years to provide academic cover for a member of staff funded by project work.
