Operations Director - Cambridge Clinical Trials Unit

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

See your future with us...

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) is one of the largest and best known hospitals in the country. The ‘local’ hospital for our community, CUH is also a leading national centre for specialist treatment: we are one of only five biomedical research centres in the UK and have a worldwide reputation as a university teaching hospital. Building on these different elements, CUH’s vision is to be one of the best academic healthcare organisations in the world.

The Cambridge Clinical trials Unit (CCTU) was established in 2011 with support from the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre, and is an accredited member of the NIHR UK Clinical Research Collaboration Registered CTU Network and member of the NCRI Cancer CTU Group. Working with researchers, CCTU quality management systems ensure compliance with GCP and other regulatory requirements, to deliver highest quality clinical trials research. Joint posts with the MRC Biostatistics Unit enable formulation of innovative trial designs and analytical methods; and joint posts with the NIHR Research Design Service provide a coordinated approach to study design and health economics expertise. In 2016/17, CCTU conducted 45 clinical trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs) and 20 non-CTIMPs, spanning a broad range of disease areas, including Oncology, Cardiovascular, Infection and Immunity, Paediatrics, Neurosciences, Trauma, Imaging, Surgery, Public Health and Primary Care. The CCTU portfolio includes single or multi-centre, national or international, Phase II to Phase IV drug trials, with an emphasis on early phase trials, and experimental medicine studies involving local investigators and academic-industry collaboration. In addition, CCTU provides QA and pharmacovigilance for CTIMPs through monitoring and centralised trial oversight.

The Director of Operations will be responsible for all operational aspects of the CCTU, which currently employs 45 staff. Reporting to the Cambridge University Hospitals Director of Research and the Director of the CCTU, the Operational Director will have extensive experience of clinical trials management, including management of data and financial systems. In addition The Director of Operations will be expected to deliver a portfolio of high quality clinical trials, providing advice and training where needed in clinical trials, research governance, regulatory approval and project management to chief investigators, teams of investigators, and project teams.

You’ll get training and development in this friendly and dynamic organisation which seeks to innovate and strives for excellence in delivering first-class patient care. You’ll also benefit from childcare facilities and flexible working. Cambridge is a great place to live with good schools, lots of housing developments, new shopping, sports and leisure facilities … and it’s only 45 minutes away from London.
