Head of Forage Plant Breeding

Aberystwyth University

IBERS is a primary centre for sustainable land-use, and a world-leading institute for advanced research concerning grass- and marginal land production systems. Our position derives from 100 years of investment from research councils, government and international agencies, Aberystwyth University, and industry. We have unique germplasm and an enviable bioscience research and capability base with leading integrative genomics, phenomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics.

Our farmed environments range from maritime, temperate locations that are amongst the most productive in Europe; to the uplands where grasslands can deliver agro-ecosystem, economic and well-being services in otherwise unproductive areas. The genetic resources, the expertise of IBERS’ plant, animal and microbial scientists, the close involvement of industry, and IBERS’ position as a knowledge hub for extension services, training, capacity building and higher education, deliver demonstrable competitive advantage.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the role of forages in sustainable agriculture, IBERS is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced research scientist to lead the forage plant breeding team. The successful candidate will have an established research background in plant genetics and applied breeding with a proven track record in variety development.
