We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced technician to join our team of Chemists supporting teaching and enabling research across both the department of Food and Nutritional Sciences & the department of Chemistry. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated technician to fulfil their potential and participate in activities across Technical Services at the University.

Duties in term times will include the ordering, preparation of solutions, reagents and consumables. The post holder will be responsible for specific undergraduate teaching practical class module delivery and as such will be present in the class, supporting students, and demonstrating techniques if necessary. It is an essential requirement that you are able to risk assess and document your preparation work following COSHH regulations. During other times, duties will include training students and carrying out laboratory coordinator tasks, basic maintenance equipment and undertaking personal and professional training.

Your application must demonstrate specific examples of:

  • Significant knowledge across a range of techniques required for Chemistry related activities.
  • Significant experience in laboratory techniques and equipment required for Chemistry activities.
  • Sufficient knowledge to draft local health and safety and quality standard documentation.
  • Attainment Equivalent to HNC, AS/ A-Level, NVQ3 in Chemistry related subject, or a degree in a Biology related subject with more limited experience.
  • The ability to plan and organise work tasks weeks in advance.
