Facilities Assistant x2 (Part-time)

Information Services has staff in a number of different locations across the Canterbury campus of the University of Kent. The Facilities Management team is responsible for ensuring that suitable security coverage is provided, that goods in and out, including post, are handled correctly, and that building issues are dealt with appropriately.

We are seeking to recruit two Facilities Assistants to work part time, an average of 14 hours per week, including evening and weekends. The individuals appointed will provide a proactive, efficient and effective service to all stakeholders and be flexible in their attitude towards hours and days of work, subject to service requirements

The Templeman Library has extended opening hours staffed by the Facilities Management team. Opening hours are regularly reviewed and may be amended from time to time.

As a Facilities Assistant you will:

  • Take responsibility for security and health and safety within the Templeman Library and other IS buildings, liaising with contacts from IS, Campus Security, Estates and other building/school staff as appropriate.
  • Carry out day to day duties of the team as the shift pattern dictates and in accordance with risk assessments as required.
  • Ensure that all areas have been checked for cleanliness and any areas falling below the required standard are reported to the FM Supervisor or in his absence the Deputy Supervisor.

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • GCSE grade C and above in English and Maths or the equivalent.
  • A current Health & Safety qualification or willingness to obtain and experience of building supervision, including security and Health & Safety.
  • Proven and considerable experience of working in a customer focused environment, using exceptional customer service skills.

Information Services is comprised of four sections: Customer Support, Library Collections and IT Development together directly support almost all areas of University activity, and the Planning and Administration section supports the work of the department.

The IT Support Services subsection of Customer Services is responsible for the support and operation of all live central IT systems on the University’s Canterbury, Medway and Tonbridge campuses.
